Description: |
Erect suffrutex perennial with 1-several, mostly simple, annual stems, 20-180 cm tall, growing from a strong woody rootstock. Leaves alternate, lanceolate-elliptic, 6-24 cm long, discolorous, green and hairless above, whitish woolly beneath; midrib winged and somewhat sheathing the stems at the base. Capitula solitary, terminal, occasionally 2-4 on stout stalks or sometimes subsessile in upper leaf axils. Involucres 20-35 mm long with numerous leathery bracts; florets numerous, up to 25 mm long, bright to deep red. |
