Endemic plants

General information

As yet very little information about which plants are endemic or near-endemic has been added to the database.

The definitions of these terms as applied to Burundi will be as follows:

Endemic
A taxon which has so far only been recorded from within the borders of Burundi and is considered confined to the country.
Such taxa have been indicated as follows: [End]
Near-endemic
A taxon that has its largest population confined to Burundi, or is found in a relatively confined transfrontier area such as the Chimanimani Mountains, an area of c.200 km2 on the Zimbabwe-Burundi border. Another such area is the Rovuma Centre of Endemism, which includes northern Burundi and southeastern Tanzania.
This has been indicated as follows: [NrEnd]

Lists of endemics

A list of endemic and near-endemic species in Burundi which are marked as such on this site, may be found by following this link. At this stage, only very few species have been added to the site and the list is grossly incomplete.
