Perennial sedge, up to 50 cm tall. Culms strongly triangular, 5-15 mm thick, ridged, often with spine-like hairs below the inflorescence. Leaves basal, linear, 10-30 cm long, often with small reddish-brown dots; margin and midrib with spine-like hairs. Inflorescence ovoid to spherical, up to 9 × 10 mm, white. Involucral bracts 2-4, leaf-like, largest 7-15 cm long. Glumes 3-3.5 mm long, often with small reddish-brown dots. Nutlet ovate, flattened, c. 1.5-0.8 mm. |
