Description:
Understorey shrub or small tree. Bark, scaly, peeling off, greenish- to grey-brown, lenticellate. Leaves in whorls of 3-6, sometimes opposite on some nodes, narrowly ovate or narrowly obovate, 2.5-28 cm long, long pointed at the apex, glossy, hairless; petiole 1-27 mm long. Inflorescences few-many-flowered on a peduncle up to 6 cm long. Flowers white to pinkish with tube white, yellowish or greenish, often with pink or reddish stripes, 2.5-10.5 mm long. Fruit with capels, ovoid to obovoid, often laterally compressed, 5-12 mm long, bright red when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: mannii: after Gustav Mann (1836-1916), British colonial representative in the Gulf of Guinea, who collected plants in that area.
