Description:
Erect shrub up to 4.5 m high or sometimes a low-growing suffrutex. Stems much branched, more or less densely hairy; bark flaking in older stems and branches. Leaves usually densely arranged on short shoots, more spaced along the young branches, 3-foliolate; leaflets oblanceolate to elliptic-obovate, up to 12 mm long but often shorter, usually densely silvery hairy beneath, sparsely so above; margins often incurved; petiole shorter than the leaflets; stipules small. Inflorescences terminal, few-flowered, contracted. Calyx silky-hairy; upper lip c. 6 mm long, deeply 2-lobed; lower lip longer than upper, deeply 3-lobed narrower lobes. Corolla yellow. Pod narrowly oblong, up to 24 mm long, straight with a short downward pointing beak, sparsely hairy, rough with glandular tubercles.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: mannii: after Gustav Mann (1836-1916), British colonial representative in the Gulf of Guinea, who collected plants in that area.
