Description:
|
Large tree with a broad rounded crown; bark reddish-brown, fissured and flaking; branches densely hairy with orange-brown hairs up to 4 mm long, ringed by the scars of old sheathing leaf-bases. Leaves imparipinnate, up to 40 cm long; leaflets 5-8 on each side, sub-opposite, narrowly oblong, 12-15 cm long, more or less hairless above, often densely silvery hairy beneath; margin finely toothed;main leaflet pairs alternating with small, reduced, subcircular ones; petiole up to 15 cm long, sheathing the branches at the base, set with soft hairs up to 4 mm long. Stipules up to 9 mm long, membranous, reddish to brown. Flowers mostly unisexual on different trees in large terminal, much-branched drooping inflorescences up to 60 cm long. Female inflorescences bulkier than male with flowers red, up to 1.5 cm long, sticky. Male flowers c. 8 mm in diameter, orange-buff or white. |
