Description: |
Perennial herb, up to c. 1 m tall, rarely taller, growing from a creeping rhizome. Leaves elliptic to obovate in outline, up to 30 cm long, varying from unlobed with remote, spiny teeth to deeply lobed with oblong to triangular spine-tipped lobes; surface rough with scattered stiff, bulbous-based hairs; petiole up to 2.5 cm long; stipule-like samll interpetiolar leaves absent. Inflorescences solitary, terminal, usually 3-15 cm long; bracts, green or purple-tipped, elliptic-obovate, more or less densely puperulous, 2.5-4.7 cm long; apical part, triangular, spine-tipped, with 4-12 large and small teeth each side. Flowers more or less pale pink to mauve. Capsule c. 2.5 cm long. |
