Description: |
Shrub, 1-3 m tall, rarely a small tree. Bark pale brownish, with lenticels. Leaves opposite, narrowly elliptic, 14-25 cm long, velvety or sometimes hairy on the veins only, net-veining prominent below; margin entire. Flowers in axillary spikes, dull to bright red or maroon, 2-lipped, held in conspicuous green bracts with a reddish margin. Fruit beaked, 1.5-2 cm long, obovoid to oblong, woody, hairless to slightly velvety. |
