Description:
Perennial herb up to 60 cm tall. Leaves several, mostly basal, narrowly lanceolate, up to 9 mm wide; some sorter leaves along the often branched slightly winged stem. Flowers in terminal and axillary 2-4-flowered clusters, blue. Spathes and bracts with entire margins. Capsule 12-18 mm long cylindric. As with the other species, the flowers are very short-lived but are produced in succession over an extensive period.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ecklonii: after Christian Friedrich Ecklon (1795-1868), a Danish pharmacist, botanist and plant collector, who was one of the early and most productive botanical explorers in South Africa.
