Description:
Tufted leafy perennial with a thick rhizome. Culms 60-100 cm, triangular, glabrous. Leaf lamina plicate or flat. Inflorescence consisting of 1-2 pyramidal panicles from each of the upper leaf sheaths; each panicle to c.8 × 3-5 cm. Spikes 5-11 mm × 2-4 mm. Glumes 3.5-4 mm, reddish-brown. Utricles beaked, greenish to reddish-brown, ribbed, usually somewhat curved. Stigmas 3.
