Description: |
Loosely caespitose perennial; culms up to 180 cm high and up to 2 mm in diameter, weakly erect or geniculately ascending, sometimes sprawling. Leaf sheaths glabrous, or pubescent above; leaf laminas 8–20 cm × 2–5 mm, glabrous or thinly pilose, long-acuminate at the apex. False panicle 10–35 cm long, narrow, lax; spatheoles 3–4 cm long, linear-lanceolate, glabrous, reddish-brown; peduncles 1/2–3/4 as long as the spatheoles, pilose above with white hairs; racemes 1–1.5 cm long, 4–5-awned per pair, laterally exserted, not or sometimes tardily deflexed; raceme-bases unequal, divergent, the superior (2)2.5–3.5 mm long, terete, stiffly pilose with white bulbous-based hairs, the articulation with the peduncle glabrous. Homogamous spikelets c. 5 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, a single pair at the base of the inferior or both racemes. Sessile spikelets 4.5–5 mm long; callus 0.8–1.5 mm long, cuneate, acute at the apex; inferior glume linear-oblong to lanceolate-oblong, sparsely hispidulous; awn 2–3 cm long, the column pubescent with fulvous hairs. Pedicelled spikelets 5–6 mm long, linear-lanceolate, glabrous, terminating in a short mucro 1–2 mm long; callus absent; pedicel-tooth short, broadly triangular. |
