Description: |
Tufted annual to short-lived perennial. Culms (35)50–100(150) cm. high, geniculately ascending and often rooting at the lower nodes. Leaf laminae (3)5–15(20) cm. long, (3)5–10(13) mm. wide, flat, thin, softly pilose. Panicle 10–25 cm. long, narrowly ovate. Pedicels glabrous, rarely with a few long hairs towards the apex, scabrous. Spikelets 1.5–2 mm. long, narrowly oblong. Inferior glume an obscure rim up to 0.1 mm. long, inserted close to the superior; superior glume 7-nerved, delicately membranous, bilobed, the lobes irregularly dentate, awnless or mucronate. Inferior floret barren without a palea, its lemma 3–5-nerved, acutely bilobed, equalling the superior glume but narrower and with an awn (5)8–20 mm. long. |
