Herb; Notes: Tall, lanky herb, up to 1.5 m high. Stem erect, rigid, terete, green with fine, white indumentum. Leaves alternate, simple; lamina narrowly ovate to lanceolate, apex acute, base rounded, margin irregularly dentate, 75-100 x 15-25 mm, dull olive-green with scabrid indumentum on both surfaces, venation abaxially prominent, 3-veined from base; petiole 5-8 mm long, green, densely pubescent. Flowers usually solitary (although 2 buds are normally formed/axillary), axillary but concentrated terminally, large, 35 mm in diameter, showy. Petals 5, free, obovate, cream-white, crinkled. Sepals 5, fused, ovate, olive-green and densely pubescent, persistent. Epicalyx segments directly beneath calyx, narrowly linear, up to 5 x 0.5 mm, densely pubescent, persistent. Stamens in central column, 10-12 mm long; pollen golden yellow. Fruit: a capsule, 5-lobed, somewhat inflated, discoidal, 1 cm in diameter, pubescent especially along central rib of each lobe; borne on stalk up to 3 cm long.
