Plants terrestrial or semi-aquatic. Rhizome creeping; rhizome scales dark, entire. Stipe not articulated. Fronds closely spaced, deeply pinnatifid to pinnate, weakly dimorphic, gemmiferous in some species; sterile pinnae glabrous, usually crenate, fertile pinnae usually narrower. Veins anastomosing with included free veinlets. Sporangia acrostichoid. Derivation of name: bolbos: a bulb, itis: closely connected; referring to the bulbils produced on the frond of some species. Worldwide: c. 44 species, pantropical distribution. Burundi: 3 taxa. |
