Annual herb with short erect branched stems. Leaves paired, elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate; stipules with 2–4 fimbriae from a short base. Inflorescence in small, usually few-flowered terminal cymes. Flowers small, calyx tube ovoid, lobes 4, triangular-lanceolate; corolla tube very short, lobes ovate, throat hairy. Fruit a capsule bilobed at the base, with a very distinct compressed central beak. Seeds few, compressed subglobose, bluntly angular, distinctly reticulately pitted. Worldwide: One species in tropical Africa and Madagascar. Burundi: 1 taxon. |
