Annual. Leaf-blades broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate; ligule membranous. Inflorescence composed of racemes borne along a central axis; rhachis triquetrous bearing solitary pedicellate spikelets, their lower glume adaxial. Spikelets narrowly lanceolate, dorsally compressed; lower glume ovate, ± 1/5 the length of the spikelet; upper glume a little shorter than the spikelet, awned; lower floret barren, represented by a membranous lemma as long as the spikelet and terminating in a flexuous awn; upper lemma chartaceous, acuminate to aristulate, its flat thin margins enfolding and concealing the palea. Caryopsis narrowly oblong. Worldwide: Species 1, in Tropical Africa Burundi: 1 taxon. |
