Description of the genus

Perennial or shrubby herbs. Leaves simple, opposite or in whorls with scattered orange glands beneath. Flowers one per bract, alternate, in terminal cymes; bracts fused to the pedicel. Calyx deeply divided into five unequal sepals. Corolla 2-lipped with linear tube. Ovary 2-locular. Seed black, ovoid, flattened.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical central Africa

Burundi: 5 taxa.
