Leaves alternate, opposite or verticillate; lamina with base often spurred; margins normally entire. Inflorescence terminal or axillary, cymose, often corymbiform, 1-many flowered. Sepals and petals free or basally connate; petals usually yellow, less often white or reddish. Fruit follicles. Seeds few-many, smooth or papillate, less often striate.
