Tree-like or shrubs, usually glabrous; trunk usually erect, unbranched, spineless. Leaves usually palmately lobed or compound. Inflorescence axillary, irregularly cymose, usually long-stalked; flowers usually fragrant. Fruit shape variable, round or five-angled. Seeds attached to inner fruit wall. Worldwide: 23 species, two of which are widely grown in the tropics and sub-tropics for their fruit (pawpaw). Burundi: 1 taxon. |
