Tree. Leaves imparipinnate, opposite or 3-nate. Inflorescence a terminal, lax pendulous panicle, with a long peduncle, the fruiting peduncles persisting and hanging from the tree after the fruit has fallen. Calyx campanulate to ± tubular. Corolla widely campanulate; limb 2-lipped and 5-lobed; tube wide. Stamens 4, didynamous; staminode 1. Disk ring-shaped. Ovary 1-locular; ovules numerous. Fruit large, cylindric, pendulous, thick-walled, indehiscent with a fibrous pulp. Seeds wingless. Derivation of name: from the native Mozambican name, kigeli-keia, for this species Worldwide: 1 species in tropical Africa Burundi: 2 taxa. |
